I believe what I say will resonate with you all.
When I first met John I was soon taken to visit his parents at the then family home in Abbey Road, Westbury on Trym. Hilda was welcoming and we instantly got along, talking about anything and everything. Unfortunately I managed to spill my cup of tea on the living room carpet during the visit, and whilst I was very embarrassed, she wasn't at all phased saying the carpet was "tea coloured" so it would be OK. There was no fuss and I was immediately put at ease. This is my first and lasting memory of Hilda.
Indeed throughout our 40+ year friendship we never had a cross word and I found the memory of my first encounter would be repeated in some shape or form many times. Hilda was accepting of all, she endured some personal challenges over the time I knew her but she didn't make a drama out of difficult situations, she just calmly carried on.
Hilda was also easy to talk to, encouraging, intelligent, interesting, and always welcoming. I am very fortunate to have many lovely memories borne out of her character and we never had a cross word that's quite something. I will miss you ❤

Hilda has such a generous soul. She often shared kind words with the people around her, just special, little things like how much she enjoyed a meal you cooked and how lovely you were when you were a baby. She and David were so good to my mum when she was confused in her later years. So patient. Hilda was a very interesting person, very well travelled and interested in topical and political issues. She knew her mind. And she must have the world's biggest Stones fan. I am very fond of Hilda. I will miss her enormously.
