I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. Martin was one of the kindest, loveliest and co-operative people it has been my privilege to know. It was a pleasure to work alongside him, and I am going to miss him so much. TMTG set builds and shows will never be the same . I am grateful that our lives crossed. He'll live on always in my heart. Still in shock and still trying to find the words... It's been a pleasure and a privilege to have this man as a friend. And of course, the bonus is that through him, we still have his lovely family, Helen, Tim, Vicky and Olly In whom Martin still lives. We are there for you all. We will treasure all the lovely memories - from Oklahoma! to Orvieto; Ashton Gate to Poole Harbour: Tortworth Court to the Angel of the North. Always generous with his time and advice, anyone was lucky to have Martin on their side. He will be sorely missed; we have lost more than a friend.X

Not only was Martin a devoted family man, he was a long-time Scouter, fulfilling many roles - County Boat Club chairman, Thursday Work Party stalwart, Scout County Executive member, County Rowing Instructor, mainstay of the famed 133rd (Bristol) Scout Group and one time County Adviser for Disabled Scouts. He gave unstintingly of his time and vast range of engineering skills not only in Scouting but to his community, to local amateur dramatics and will be hugely missed. Our hearts go out to Helen and his family. Benjamin Perry Guide & Scout Activity Centre, Bristol Harbour.

Oh Martin. So much a part of our theatrical life in Thornbury. Always our first port of call for questions about anything relating to local productions. Your calmness, your humour, your knowledge, your evenness with everyone. The cosy circle in the Wheatsheaf after a show - please come and visit us there! We'll get your pint in anyway. Much love and much respect to an irreplaceable member of the community and a very dear man. Helen, Tim, Vicky and Ollie, I hope that your pride in this special person will help to carry you through the pain. We are all here for you. x

So shocked and saddened to hear of Martin's sudden passing. Our friendship goes back so many years. Richard first met Martin and Helen through the 133rd Scout Group when they were teenagers and when Sheila joined the group we became firm friends. We have so many wonderful memories of our time spent together. As Leaders running annual Scout Camps and Pack Holidays. This called for a true team spirit and Martin was very much part of the team. Always up for a challenge and a great troubleshooter! We enjoyed many great holidays together travelling through Europe and camping on the way. One year we ventured into North Africa where we rode camels In the Sahara at dawn and slept under the stars at night accompanied by the occasional reptile. Magical times. When our families arrived, the children enjoyed happy times together. Martin was Tom's Godfather and we are Godparents to Tim, Vicky and Olly. It was a joy to be invited to Vicky and Jaye's wedding and to see Martin proudly walk his daughter down the aisle. He worked so hard on that day to make sure everything was just perfect for his daughter. Martin has contributed so much to the community in so many ways, a legacy his family can be truly proud of. Helen, Tim, Vicky,, Olly and Sue may you find comfort in this. We are thinking of you all and sending all our love to you and your families. Sheila and Richard xx

Uncle Martin - I will miss you. You are weaved into the fabric of my life. I remember you as far back as I have memories. I have been thinking of the weekend you and Helen came and stayed with me in London and how we enjoyed hanging out in the cellars at Gordon's Wine Bar. Here's a photo of you looking typically mischievous with my Dad back at my (too much flavoured vodka) wedding party in 2002. Much love to Helen, Tim, Vicky and Olly and all the family who I know are missing you so much. Xx

I didn't see Uncle Martin very often but whenever we were lucky enough to get together as a family, for me most recently at Grandma's birthday, I always thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him. He was a kind and gentle soul, always smiling, always interested in hearing my stories, wonderful with the kids. They remember him for bringing a candle floss machine to Grandma's party and allowing them to go home with far too many sweets! From that day, I remember sitting in the hotel garden that evening, drinking wine and talking. I can't imagine not seeing him next time we are all together. It won't be the same and I shall miss him enormously. Thank you Uncle Martin for your love and kindness. You were everything an uncle should be. My heart goes out to the rest of my family, to Aunt Helen, I am in awe of your bravery, to my cousins, I am so glad you have each other, to my Grandma and Uncle Richard and his family, I am so sorry for your loss too. We cannot believe we have lost Martin, this past week has been very difficult for everyone. We will always remember all the parties at Jamie and Vicky's house - Christmas, Halloween, the grandchildren's birthday parties and BBQ's. Martin always threw himself into what ever occasion it was, always dressing up for Halloween. Our love goes to Helen and the boys and of course to our daughter in law Vicky, our son Jamie and our beautiful grandchildren Milly and Charlie. Martin will be very much missed by all. God bless.

Martin was an important part of our lives. We loved him very much & valued the times we spent together. This week his voice, full of humour, has been ringing in my ears such that I turned expecting him to be there behind me. We have been through fun times, happy times, sad times together. He was a real brother to me always there with advice & support when it was needed. He & John shared an ebay habit although I will say Martin took it to unprecedented levels! His garden can be identified from space! My thoughts are with all the rest of family especially Helen, Tim, Vicky & Olly,Martin's sister & her family too.

What an amazing man he was. I have worked alongside Martin for over 15 years especially when he was stage manager and I was set designer. We got on brilliantly and his ability to find ways to do things and make it happen when I was being arty farty, never ceased to amaze me. You were so hard working and gave so much of yourself voluntarily to many many people...I will miss you always. Your wry smile, your dry sense of humour and your calmness in the face of adversity. I think of the many hours we spent at the Armstrong Hall sometime late into the evening , but you always made sure the Show went on ok. To Helen, Olly and Vicky I send all my love, thoughts and prayers - Martin, you were a one-off - but there is a new star in heaven. Xxxxx
